Wait times are fetched from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Wait Times API, which publishes real-time delay data for commercial (truck/FAST) lanes at major Canada-US land crossings. Data is updated approximately every 30 minutes by CBP. Canadian CBSA does not publish a comparable public API; southbound (Canada-to-US) times are sourced from the CBP feed, while northbound wait conditions may differ.
What is a FAST lane and who can use it?
FAST (Free and Secure Trade) lanes are dedicated lanes at Canada-US crossings for pre-approved low-risk commercial shipments. To use a FAST lane, the importer, carrier, and highway carrier must all be approved under the FAST program (Canada: CBSA FAST; US: CBP FAST). FAST-eligible shipments typically clear in minutes rather than the 30-90+ minutes possible in standard commercial lanes during peak periods. Enrollment is free but requires an application and approval process.
