Prepare legal-dimension machinery for open-deck freight with verified specifications, loading arrangements, site access and carrier coordination.
In This Guide
What It Means
Confirm machinery dimensions and weight, including skids, crates and attached components. Manufacturing and agricultural equipment must be reviewed individually; not every machine fits legal-dimension, legal-weight equipment.
Why It Matters
OTR coordinates legal-dimension and legal-weight flatbed and open-deck freight only. OTR does not arrange oversized, overweight or permit-required shipments.
How It Works
- Prepare accurate specifications, skid or crate details, handling instructions and centre-of-gravity information when applicable.
- Arrange forklift or crane loading and unloading, side or top access, site contacts, appointments and adequate access at both facilities.
- Confirm tarping and weather protection; remove or secure loose components using the manufacturer’s handling instructions and communicate remaining attachments to the carrier.
Common Challenges
Loose components, uncertain lifting arrangements or incomplete dimensions can change the carrier’s equipment assessment. Resolve these details before tendering the shipment.
Best Practices
Coordinate the prepared cargo information with the carrier. Shipment planning is different from final securement: the motor carrier and driver must assess the actual load, devices, attachment points and applicable requirements. Oversized, overweight and permit-required machinery is excluded.
When to Use This Service
Planning references are not an engineered securement design, legal advice, approval or a release determination. The motor carrier and driver remain responsible for final cargo securement and regulatory compliance.
Plan compatible open-deck capacity using complete shipment details.
