Legal-Dimension Open-Deck Freight

Steel and Metal Products Flatbed Freight

Structural steel and beams, sheet and plate, pipe and tubing, and fabricated metal products may suit open-deck transportation. Coils and wire rod are considered only when shipment requirements and suitable carrier capability permit.

Weight, dimensions and equipment compatibility

Provide piece and bundle counts, length, width, height and verified total weight. Identify concentrated weight and packaging details. Coil orientation, supports and handling information require shipment-specific carrier review; commodity names alone do not establish acceptance or capacity.

Loading, unloading and access

Confirm crane or forklift capability, side or top access, lifting arrangements and receiving appointments. Share mill or fabrication-site access restrictions, delivery space and unloading responsibilities before a carrier is sourced.

Tarping and shipment-specific securement

State whether steel or finished metal surfaces need weather protection and identify sharp edges that could affect tarps or devices. Securement requirements depend on the actual product and setup. OTR communicates these details; we do not design securement plans or provide engineering approval. Final securement and compliance remain the motor carrier’s and driver’s responsibility.

Legal-weight Canada and cross-border freight

OTR coordinates Canada and Canada–U.S. steel shipments within legal dimensions and weight, subject to equipment, lane and availability. For cross-border freight, supply commercial invoice and shipment details to your appointed customs broker; OTR coordinates transportation communication, not customs brokerage. Permit-required freight is excluded.

OTR coordinates legal-dimension and legal-weight flatbed and open-deck freight only. OTR does not arrange oversized, overweight or permit-required shipments. Planning references are not an engineered securement design, legal advice, approval or a release determination. The motor carrier and driver remain responsible for final cargo securement and regulatory compliance.
